Lighter Days  ·  Last updated 20 September 2026

Lighter Days is a home management app for new mothers. It is run by Holly Allison, trading as Lighter Days, based in Scotland. This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it.

The short version: your data is used to run the app for you. It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not used to train anyone's AI models. There is no tracking and there are no analytics in the app at all.

Who is responsible for your data

Holly Allison, trading as Lighter Days, is the data controller. You can reach us at hello@lighterdaysapp.com.

What the app collects

Everything below is linked to your account and used only to make the app work.

Your name and email address
Received from Apple when you sign in with Apple, and only if you choose to share them. Apple lets you hide your real email address, and the app works normally if you do.
An account identifier
A random ID that links your data to your account.
What you put into the app
Meal plans, shopping lists, to-do items, notes, brain dumps, ideas and your daily schedule.
Budget information
The budget figures and spending you enter yourself. The app has no connection to your bank and never sees your accounts, card numbers or transactions.
Information about your baby's meals
Meals you log, and any reaction you record against a meal. Because a recorded reaction can indicate a food intolerance or allergy, this is treated as health data and given the extra protection described below.
Subscription status
Whether you have an active premium subscription. Apple handles the payment. The app never sees your card details.

What the app does not collect

Your calendar stays on your device

If you allow calendar access, the app reads your events through Apple's own EventKit framework so it can show today's appointments alongside your plan. Those events are read on your device and displayed to you. They are never uploaded, stored on our servers or sent anywhere.

Your microphone

During setup you can speak the meals your family already eats instead of typing them. The recording is turned into text on your device using Apple's speech recognition. The text is then sent to our AI provider, as described below, so it can be turned into a meal list. The audio recording itself is never stored or uploaded.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. The app does not use push notifications and does not collect or store a device token.

How AI features work

Several features — Brain Dump, meal and to-do suggestions, setup help and turning spoken meals into a list — use Claude, an AI model provided by Anthropic.

When you use one of these features, the relevant text is sent from the app to our own server function, and from there to Anthropic's API. Only the text needed for that request is sent. For follow-up questions in a Brain Dump conversation, the app sends a short summary of the conversation rather than the full history, which is kept on your device.

Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models. We do not send your name, email address or account identifier with these requests.

Who else handles your data

Supabase
Hosts the database and server functions. Your data is stored in Supabase's West EU region, in Dublin, Ireland. Supabase privacy policy
Anthropic
Provides the Claude AI model behind the features listed above. Anthropic privacy policy
Apple
Handles sign-in and subscription payments. Apple privacy policy

That is the complete list. Your data is not shared with anyone else, and it is never sold.

Why we are allowed to use your data

Under UK GDPR, we process your data to provide the service you have asked for — that is, to perform our contract with you. For the baby meal reactions, which count as health data, we rely on your explicit consent, given when you choose to record a reaction. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting those entries or your account.

How long it is kept

Your data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed from our database immediately, and from our backups within 30 days.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the Profile screen in the app. This permanently removes your meal plans, shopping lists, to-dos, notes, ideas, budget entries, baby meal logs and profile, and revokes the app's Apple sign-in token. It cannot be undone.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to ask for it in a portable format. Email hello@lighterdaysapp.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Lighter Days is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, email us and we will delete the account.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
